The Chicago Bears’ offense has been picking up accolades this offseason, with Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and Matt Forte all heading to the Pro Bowl and Kyle Long being named to the NFL’s All-Rookie Team earlier this week.
The team received another honor on Friday for their offensive excellence, as Jeffery was named the NFL’s Most Improved Player by the Professional Football Writers of America.
The 23-year old receiver ended up leading his team in receiving yards this season, racking up 1421 yards to go along with 89 receptions (second to Marshall’s 100 catches) and seven touchdowns on the year. Jeffery also rushed for 105 yards and picked up six first downs for the Bears on the ground this season.
Jeffery also set the Bears record for receiving yards in a game twice this season, going for 218 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 and then besting his own record with a monstrous 249 yards against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13.
After an offseason spent working with Marshall at a camp in Florida, Jeffery massively improved on his numbers from a season ago. In 10 games in the 2012 season, Jeffery caught 24 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns, and while he did show flashes of potential in that season, nothing could have possibly prepared Bears fans for the leap forward that he took this year.
