Teen Girl Stabbed at Chicago High School

The teen was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center

A teenage girl was stabbed in the neck by another student during a fight in a classroom at a Grand Crossing neighborhood high school Tuesday morning on the South Side.

Police said one teenage girl stabbed another with a pair of scissors about 10:35 a.m. during a fight at Hirsch Metro High School in the 7700 block of South Ingleside Avenue.

The 16-year-old girl was initially taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but her condition was later upgraded and she is in “stable” condition.

Chicago Public Schools issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying it was working with police and the principal "to keep parents informed of the situation and ensure them all appropriate steps have been taken to provide a safe environment for students remaining at the school."

A teenager was taken into custody, but no charges have been filed as of Tuesday night, police said.

South Area detectives are investigating.
