After beautiful sunshine and warm temps graced the Chicago area Monday morning, summer storms rolled through in the late afternoon into the evening.
Heavy rains led to a Flash Flood Warning for part of the Chicago area, including the city, Midway Airport and Cicero, that continued until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Chicago Transit Authority Pink Line service was temporarily suspended during the early morning hours between 54th/Cermak and Pulaski due to the flooding.
Several viaducts in the city, including the Lake Shore Drive ramp from Michigan Avenue and Oak Street and several expressway ramps, were flooded in the evening storms.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for North Chicago, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Buffalo Grove and Highland Park that remained in effect until 5:30 p.m.
Two separate systems moved through the Chicago area throughout the day. The first wave of rainy weather passed south of Chicago bringing a few isolated storms in late afternoon. A second wave from the northwest came shortly after with strong widespread showers that continued to pour down into the evening hours.
The storms were expected to bring anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches of heavy rain along with damaging winds and hail.

The stormy weather began to move out of the area during the overnight hours with another chance for storms early Tuesday and again later in the day.
The threat remains through Wednesday morning with the metropolitan area in a marginal to slight risk for severe weather from Monday to Wednesday.
Things look to stay mostly dry Thursday and Friday.
