Slick Roads Across Chicago Area Make for Dangerous Commute

Overnight rain, sleet and even snow made for slick road conditions early Thursday - causing multiple crashes across the Chicago area.

In DuPage County, Oak Brook police shut down Roosevelt Road eastbound near Route 83 after a two car crash brought traffic to a halt near the Westmont area before 6 a.m.

Multiple accidents also took place in Broadview, authorities said.

Two crashes occurred on the Cermak Bridge, according to police, who said they shut down the bridge because of icy conditions.

After 6 a.m., a car flipped over the Cermak Bridge guardrail at Gardner Road, officials said, landing below.

Another accident occurred around the same time in that area, leaving several people injured, according to police. Broadview police were also investigating a third crash resulting in injuries near the intersection of Gardner and Roosevelt roads.

Police in Bartlett tweeted at around 7:43 a.m. that a "minor traffic accident" took place on West Bartlett Road between the railroad tracks and Westridge Blvd/Gifford. Authorities warned that the crash was impacting westbound traffic and drivers should expect delays.

Further details on these incidents, including injuries, were not immediately available.
