After DNAinfo and Chicagoist were shuttered, reporters found that their entire digital archive at the publications had been wiped from the internet. On Friday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel offered to help.
The mayor tweeted out his support of those reporters who lost their jobs when the company announced that they would be closing down both websites, effective immediately:
The decision, which was announced by CEO Joe Ricketts on Thursday in a letter posted to the websites, meant that the entire digital archive of both sites was wiped out, leaving reporters scrambling to find clips as they seek out new jobs.
On Friday, Emanuel offered to help those reporters, saying that the city would be willing to provide clips of their work that had been archived by the mayor’s media team:
“DNAinfo reporters, we’re happy to provide you clips of your work from our own archives,” the mayor said in a tweet.
The decision, which put roughly 150 journalists out of work, to shutter both sites comes after reporters in New York voted to unionize last week, according to the New York Times.
