Police in suburban Bensenville have identified the alleged driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash Friday that left an elderly pedestrian dead.

At about 7:30 a.m., a gray extended cab Ford pickup truck was making a right turn from the Dunkin' Donuts exit in the 1000 block of West Irving Park Road when it struck an 86-year-old woman who was walking across the sidewalk, according to Bensenville police.

The truck continued traveling eastbound on Irving Park Road and did not stop after the accident, police said.

On Saturday morning around 7:15 a.m., police spotted a car that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle at the Dunkin' Donuts near the site of the accident. The driver and car were subsequently brought to the police station.

The woman, later identified as Modesta De La Rosa, was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where she died a short time after the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The driver has not been named as no charges have been filed. The investigation remains underway, police said.
