As Chicago celebrated Easter Sunday, Catholics flocked to the Holy Name Cathedral to honor the holiday with Cardinal Francis George.
George, speaking to a crowded room, said the holiday, much like the season, is a time for renewal. He called for parishioners to reach out to one another.
“A good way to celebrate Easter is to ask who’s being neglected,” George said.
Those who attended the mass praised the service and George’s message.
“It’s a blessing. It’s a true blessing,” said parishioners Fred Houpe. “I believe in every spirit and everything that he says.”
For Suzanne Puterbaugh, the service hit close to home.
Puterbaugh, who recently returned from Rome and traveled from Wisconsin to attend the service, said the message impacted her personally and in her career as a social worker.

“It’s an important message that I hope everyone embraces in their profession and their world,” she said.
The Cardinal also spoke about how his message of renewal relates to the election of Pope Francis.
“The church is always being reborn,” George said.
George said the new pope’s personality fits well with the change he is bringing to the church.
“What you see in public is what he is in person,” George said. “He’s a very integral man. He’s very together. I think we should all emulate that.”
