O'Hare? O'Bama? Rumors Flying on Midway Name Change

Web claim has been staked, but mayor scoffs at idea

Since t's all over the Internet, it must be real.

We're talking about the rumor that Chicago's Midway Airport is going to be renamed Barack H. Obama International Airport.

It sort of rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

An entreprenurial doctor out of California -- Dildar Ahmad -- has already registered the Web site www.barackobamaairport.com -- but he hasn't actually done anything with the site yet.  Rumors in the Internet would indicate that Ahmad's willing to sell the site, for a price.

But Mayor Daley on Monday scoffed at the idea.

"No, you don't change Midway's name.  It has historical significance," he said.

If you don't know, Midway is named for the Battle of Midway, a turning point in WWII in which hundreds of Americans died.

But we all know how Daley deals with airport changes, so how much you believe his assertion that there will be no name change is up to you.

The Daily Southtown reported Monday that the bloggers seem to have the inside track on the deal.

Hillbuzz, a political blog that appears to have some sort of fascination with Hillary Clinton, seems to have got things rolling Dec. 30.

"Behind the scenes work is already under way to rename Chicago's Midway Airport after Obama -- becoming Barack H. Obama International Airport," the post states.

And that's not the only source reporting the name change.  According to the Southtown, several blogs are saying that the plan is already in the works and that it's just a matter of time.

So, would you rather fly out of O'Hare or O'Bama?
