Obama Campaign Plans A-List Fashion Event

Anna Wintour and Iman to help unveil Harpo Studios pop-up shop event

President Barack Obama appears to have designs on Chicago's "Project Runway" demo.

Select members of Chicago's fashion community received a "Save the Date" flyer in recent days for  a June 12th event to unveil the "Runway to Win" pop-up shop at Harpo Studios.

The event will be hosted by legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour and supermodel Iman, and will feature fashions made specifically for the Obama campaign.

According to the flyer, the Obama Victory Fund 2012 is behind the event, which has been authorized by Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee.

A similar event was held in New York City in January, hosted by Wintour and actress Scarlett Johanssen.

Tickets will be released in the coming weeks, but guests are encouraged to attend for cocktails and to shop a collection of clothing and accessories from designers such as Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Jason Wu, Diane Von Furstenberg and many more.

Among those prominent names, White House political adviser Jim Messina is also listed in bold type as a special guest on the flyer.

The Obama campaign did not respond to requests for comment about Runway to Win.

Last month, Mayor Rahm Emanuel mulled using the old Harpo Studios for a cultural center, but now it seems the West Loop location is finding new life on the political stage.

And a fashionable one at that.
