A man was killed Saturday after he reportedly jumped into the Chicago River on the Near North Side with bricks tied around his waist, officials said.
The man was seen on a bridge in the 1100 block of West North Avenue by a witness who notified police around 4:45 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The man jumped into the river before police arrived at the scene, police said.
The incident is under a death investigation, though it appears to be a suicide, Mirabelli said.
