A massive tree is drawing believers in Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood.
Parishioners at St. Kevin Church have become captivated by an almost 3-D image that they say depicts the Virgin Mary on the trunk of a large tree.
The resemblance was first noticed June 3 after a special Friday mass held in honor of if the church’s 135th anniversary, the Northwest Indiana Times reports.
When the marking first appeared is still unknown. One woman told other churchgoers that she had seen it a year ago but never said anything, according to the paper.
The likeness has made crowds flock to the tree in the grassy lot at 10509 S. Torrence Ave. in the yard of the church.
One mother visiting the tree Wednesday afternoon told NBC 5 she had brought her 2-month-old baby there to receive a blessing.
St. Kevin Church has been in the community since 1884.
