Chicago Ideas Week Announces 2013 Fellowship Winners

The third annual Chicago Ideas Week festival will run Oct. 14-20

Local philanthropists Leslie Bluhm and David Helfand, in collaboration with Chicago Ideas Week, on Tuesday announced the selected 2013 Social Innovation Fellowship winners.

The 2013 Social Innovation Fellows include: Sasha Fisher of Mbale, Uganda; Sarah Elizabeth Ippel of Chicago, Ill.; Caitria O’Neill of Pacifica, Calif.; Andrew Mangino of New York, N.Y.; and Vineet Singal of San Francisco, Calif. There were more than 200 applications for the Social Innovation Fellow submitted.

Chicago Ideas Week, the citywide intellectually driven festival, will take place Oct. 14 through Oct. 20. The five selected individuals will present during the week and receive $10,000 toward a new endeavor.

"We look forward to welcoming them to Chicago to present at Chicago Ideas Week, meet with business and political leaders, and potential investors and mentors, and much more," said Helfand said. "It’s an incredible experience that we can’t wait to share with them."

Early bird tickets for the event will go on sale Thursday, while full ticket sales begin on Sept. 3.
The fellows involved are currently working toward changing the lives of 500,000 people across North America and in Africa through health, education, and poverty as well as disaster relief.

Chicago Ideas Week launched three years ago, and has continued as an annual social gathering with a common goal to create new connections and make collaborative social achievements.
