The Chicago Bears signed their top pick from the 2019 NFL Draft on Friday, the team announced, agreeing to a rookie deal with running back David Montgomery.
Montgomery was a star in his final season at Iowa State University, rushing for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 216 pound junior also had 22 catches for 157 yards in his final collegiate season.
With Jordan Howard having been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, Montgomery will look to team up with new acquisition Mike Davis and returning star Tarik Cohen in the Bears' backfield, and he will hope to give head coach Matt Nagy a bit of a different look offensively.
The Bears traded up from the 87th pick to the 73rd overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft to snag Montgomery in April.
Last month, they signed three of their other draft picks - Riley Ridley, Kerrith Whyte Jr. and Stephen Denmark - now leaving just cornerback Duke Shelley unsigned.
