Chicago Animal Care and Control Extends ‘Clear the Shelters' Hours

At Chicago Animal Care and Control, Clear the Shelters will continue for a second day -- from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday -- and adoption fees will still be waived for animals 6 months and older as part of the event.

Chicago Animal Care and Control has extended its "Clear the Shelters" hours into Sunday and announced a rain-check policy to accommodate the large response and long lines Saturday at the shelter.

NBC and Telemundo partnered with dozens of animal shelters across the Chicago area as part of the national one-day pet adoption initiative known as Clear the Shelters. More than 1,400 shelters and rescues registered to participate in this year's campaign from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, including more than 40 in the Chicago area.

At Chicago Animal Care and Control, 2741 S. Western Ave., Clear the Shelters will continue for a second day -- from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday -- and adoption fees will still be waived for animals 6 months and older as part of the event.

In addition, potential pet parents who come into the shelter this weekend and get a "Clear the Shelters" rain check will get fees waived next weekend, Aug. 23 through Aug. 25. You must have the rain check in order to take advantage of next weekend's waived fees.

"Thank you for attending CACC's CLEAR THE SHELTERS adoption event!" the waiver reads. "We are sorry you weren't able to adopt today. Since many new animals enter the shelter each day, we want to offer you an opportunity to return and adopt a pet at no charge."

The rain check can only be used at CACC and not at other participating shelters.
