Aurora Man Charged With Hiding Gun, Running From Police

The suspect is awaiting arraignment at Kane County Jail

An Aurora man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly ran from police who saw him hide a gun behind a garage.

Erik Lopez-Perez, 20, was charged with felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member and possession of a weapon without a FOID, Aurora police said.

According to police, Lopez-Perez was walking with a group about 4:15 p.m. Thursday when he saw police and ducked behind a garage in the 300 block of State Street.

After coming back outside, Lopez-Perez ran from officers, who caught up to him a short while later, police said.

After being detained, Lopez-Perez allegedly admitted to hiding a pistol behind the garage, where officers later found a loaded handgun, police said.

Lopez-Perez is awaiting arraignment at Kane County Jail.
