An Aurora man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly ran from police who saw him hide a gun behind a garage.

Erik Lopez-Perez, 20, was charged with felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member and possession of a weapon without a FOID, Aurora police said.

According to police, Lopez-Perez was walking with a group about 4:15 p.m. Thursday when he saw police and ducked behind a garage in the 300 block of State Street.

After coming back outside, Lopez-Perez ran from officers, who caught up to him a short while later, police said.

After being detained, Lopez-Perez allegedly admitted to hiding a pistol behind the garage, where officers later found a loaded handgun, police said.
