Donations for Baby Emma Pour In, Exceed Fundraising Goal

The story of baby Emma Louise Salas was reported Thursday night on the NBC 5 NEWS

In this holiday season of giving, NBC Chicago viewers were quick to show their generosity.

A fundraising site collecting donations to help pay the medical and household expenses for a little girl with a rare condition was more than triple its fundraising goal by Friday morning.

The story of baby Emma Louise Salas was reported Thursday night on the NBC 5 NEWS.

Salas' mother, Laura Torres, posted Friday on the YouCaring.com site thanking supporters for their donations under the name "Mom."

"I am completely in awe of the people that have taken their time and hard-earned money to help my family. I thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and your generosity. This money gives me the ability to provide the everyday essentials for my kids, and to pay the bills that I am not able to pay because of being here with my daughter. This is the most humbling experience of my life. Thank all of you for so much from the bottom of my heart."

The largest shown amount donated, by multiple people, was $500 as of Friday morning. Supporters shared their own personal experiences and gave blessings to baby Emma and her mother.
