A man and an 11-year-old boy were injured in a drive-by shooting on Friday evening in the westbound lanes of I-80/94 in Gary, Indiana State Police said.
Police first responded to a shots fired call at approximately 5:27 p.m. on I-80/94 near Burr Street.
An investigation revealed a gray Kia was headed westbound on the interstate when a dark-colored crossover vehicle pulled alongside it, and multiple shots were fired. As both vehicles continued on the highway, shots were also fired at two additional vehicles, police said.
A back seat passenger, a 23-year-old man from Gary, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. The front seat passenger, an 11-year-old boy from Steger, was struck by gunfire once in his leg, police said.
Investigators determined the shooting appeared to be targeted, and not a case of road rage. Both victims were taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life threatening injuries.
Police hadn't released any information on possible suspects Friday night.
