Political history was made in Chicago Monday when Cook County's first Hispanic and first female state's attorney was sworn-in.
Anita Alvarez said she believes her qualifications as a prosecutor are more important than her race or gender.
"Being a woman, being a Latina has certainly enhanced my candidacy along the way. But I think the most important thing is that the voters got a qualified person to do this job."
She said her top issue is to reduce gang violence.
