But at any given moment, a single accident or stalled vehicle can disrupt traffic flow for countless drivers. Fortunately, a dedicated group of state employees called the Minutemen can show up within minutes to assist drivers and keep the lanes free and clear.
But the Minutemen also have one of the most dangerous jobs in Illinois.
We sat down with a group of Minutemen to ask them about the biggest dangers they face and how drivers can create a safer experience on the highways.
