JC Brizard to Remain on CPS Payroll

Jean-Claude Brizard lost his job today, but not his paycheck.

Brizard, who was hired in April 2011, signed a two-year contract at $250,000 a year set to expire next May, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

On Friday, just hours after Brizard announced his resignation, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Barbara Byrd-Bennett would step into the position during a press conference.

Emanuel said that Brizard had approached him about stepping down. He then praised Brizard for his work over the past 17 months and told him to hold his head up with pride.

At the press conference, Chicago Board of Education President David Vitale said Brizard would stay on to help ensure Byrd-Bennett has a smooth transition into her new role.
