PJ Randhawa is the Consumer Investigative Reporter for NBC 5 Responds — and after nearly two decades chasing hard news in five markets across the country, she’s excited to be back home in Chicago.
She’s committed to uncovering the truth and standing up for viewers. Since joining NBC 5 Responds in 2023, her investigations have helped recover more than $1 million for viewers.
With nearly 20 years of reporting experience, PJ’s investigations have prompted laws to change, sparked police investigations, led to criminal charges, and fueled class action lawsuits — delivering real accountability and measurable results for the communities she serves.
In recognition of the real-world impact of her work, the City of St. Louis declared January 14, 2022, “PJ Randhawa Day,” honoring reporting that led to meaningful reforms and new laws.
Her journalism has earned national and regional honors, including being named a 2023 DuPont Finalist, winning 7 Emmy Awards and 2 Edward R. Murrow Awards, and receiving a 2023 National Headliner Award. She also earned a 2022 Crystal Mic for “Best Reporter” from the Illinois News Broadcasters Association, four Society of Professional Journalists awards for News Excellence, a 2023 National Excellence in Journalism Award from the NLGJA, along with multiple Missouri Broadcast awards and an International Sikh Award for Anchoring.
Before joining NBC 5, PJ served as the Investigative Race and Equity Reporter at KING 5 News. Prior to that, she was the Lead Investigative Reporter at KSDK, where her reporting exposed corruption in police departments, uncovered government mismanagement, and helped pass new laws addressing sexual assault and cyberstalking.
Earlier in her career, PJ worked as a political reporter in Columbia, South Carolina, and as a morning news anchor in Rapid City, South Dakota. She got her start in Chicago, working in nearly every major newsroom as an intern or production assistant.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, PJ is the proud daughter of immigrant parents from the Punjab region of India. She moved to Chicago in 2005 to attend Northeastern Illinois University and later earned her master’s degree in journalism from DePaul University. Today, she’s proud to call Chicago home, where she lives with her husband, baby girl, and her feisty pug, Yogi.
