An official of a Lake County fire department has been taken into custody and charged with possessing child pornography.

Joseph Hubbard of Gurnee resigned as assistant chief of the Newport Township Fire Department earlier this month when an investigation got under way.
The Lake County state's attorney's office says a relative of the 53-year-old Hubbard notified authorities there were pornographic images of children on his home computer.
Mary Stanton of the state's attorney office's cyber crimes unit says an investigation discovered pornographic images of children that had been e-mailed and saved in Hubbard's e-mail account.
Hubbard, who was arrested and charged Friday, is free on $50,000 bond. His attorney, Robert Hauser, was unavailable for comment.
