Man Charged After Infant in Stroller Fatally Hit by Car Fleeing Shooting

A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a 13-month-old boy who was killed when his stroller was hit by a car that police believe was fleeing the scene of a shooting in Chicago over the weekend.

Antoine Watkins, of the 8100 block of South Bennett Avenue on Chicago’s South Side, was charged with one felony count of murder, a misdemeanor count of attempting to elude police and received a citation for driving without insurance following the fatal crash.

Police say Watkins was seen in a vehicle that matched the description of one that fled the scene of a fatal shooting in the 7700 block of South Kingston Avenue in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

After the shooting, police say the vehicle crashed into a group of people at the intersection of 63rd and Ellis, striking an infant who was with his mother.

The boy was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation by Area South detectives is ongoing, police said.
