Three Cook County sheriff’s officers were injured Tuesday while attempting to restrain an inmate at the Cook County Jail.
About 1:30 p.m., maximum security inmate Tacorey Killebrew was being escorted back to jail, according to Cook County sheriffs spokesperson Cara Smith. Killebrew has been in custody for more than two years on an attempted murder charge and has been involved in over 55 different incidents in the jail, “most involving assaults on staff and many involving him throwing his urine or feces on officers,” Smith said.
While being taken back to his division, officers thought he was “holding a container filled with liquid,” she said. “Two officers and one sergeant were injured as they tried to subdue the offender and prevent him from projecting the liquid.”
The three were taken to St. Anthony Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Smith and Fire Media Affairs.
