You've got to move fast if you want to pig out.
General admission tickets for Baconfest 2013 went on sale Wednesday at noon, but the approximately 2,800 $100 tickets were all gone in 41 minutes.
All of the tickets were added to carts by 12:04 p.m., but more tickets became available when individuals didn't complete the transaction.
"This just proves that we're doing something right," Baconfest founder Seth Zurer said. "Last year we sold out in 3 hours, this year is just crazy."
The fifth annual event goes down April 20 at the UIC Forum, and features dozens of restaurants, liquor companies and breweries presenting their unique takes on the "other white meat."
Baconfest 2013 will again be split into a lunch and dinner shift -- a twist added last year in order to accomodate more people -- but even that doesn't seem to be stopping the event's exponential growth.
So why not get a bigger venue?
"We're open to adding more shifts and more venues, but we love that number of people and restaurants that we have," Zurer said. "We want to make sure the event stays fun and that's what we take into consideration when we talk about growth."
Organizers have pushed that growth to other cities, with Baconfest events planned in San Francisco and Washington DC this year.
More than $85,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository since the first Baconfest in 2009.
