“Fashion Star” Adds Nicole Richie, John Varvatos

"Fashion Star" welcomes a fashionista and a fashion designer.

The NBC reality competition series has just added Nicole Richie and John Varvatos as "mentors" to its group of fashion design hopefuls, joining the previously announced Jessica Simpson. The three will help guide the contestants as they compete for the right to have their line sold in major retailers nationwide.

Supermodel Elle Macpherson has already been tapped to host the series, which will debut this fall.

In a statement, executive producer Ben Silverman enthused about the cast.

“Jessica, Nicole, John and Elle make the most exciting team we have ever worked with on a reality television show and we are thrilled to feature such an extraordinary group of mentors and designers,” he said.

In addition to her reality show fame, Richie is a budding creative director, having helped start a women's ready-to-wear collection called Winter Kate, as well as a maternity line called Pea in the Pod. She is also an author and actress.

Varvatos is an internationally recognized menswear designer who got his start at such iconic labels as Polo Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

"Fashion Star" will feature 14 unknown designers, and will incorporate elements of musical performance, dance, and modeling in its competitive format.
