All of northern Illinois is under a red flag warning Monday, meaning the area will see critical fire conditions. The Chicago area is also set to see weather-related conditions that may affect the Cubs as they take on the Mets.
The warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. as strong winds, low humidity and warmer temperatures hit the area.
Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are possible through the early evening hours with humidity levels down to 23 percent. The conditions could lead to “extreme fire behavior,” according to the National Weather Service. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and could be very difficult to control, according to the warning.
The windy conditions are expected to stay in the area Tuesday, as the Chicago Cubs come home to face the New York Mets in Game 3 of the NLCS.
Southwestern gusts of up to 25 mph are possible throughout the day.
Also potentially impacting the Cubs game is the chance for rain showers Tuesday evening.
While temperatures are forecast to be well above-average, with highs in the low- to mid-70s, there is a slight chance for showers during the game. Any rain that hits the area will be light and spotty, however.
