The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox have made a blockbuster trade on Thursday as the Cubs acquired pitcher Jose Quintana from the South Side.
In exchange, the White Sox will get back Cubs top propsect Eloy Jimenez, right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, first baseman Matt Rose and infielder Bryant Flete.
Quintana struggled early in the season, but despite a 4-8 record and a 4.49 ERA he has begun to pitch more effectively in recent weeks, and he will be expected to give an immediate boost to a Cubs' rotation that struggled in the first half of the season.
Quintana will be available to pitch for the Cubs in their series against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend at Camden Yards. The Cubs are also hoping to get NL Cy Young Award finalist Kyle Hendricks back as well, giving their rotation a double-boost.
As for the White Sox, the move to give up Quintana adds even more depth to one of baseball's best farm system. Jimenez has all the makings of a superstar, with a powerful bat, a strong eye at the plate, and speed to burn.
Cease was one of the best pitchers in the Cubs' organization, with a 2.79 ERA and 74 strikeouts in just 51 innings of work at Single-A South Bend this season.
