Before their Saturday game against the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox made a series of roster moves, including placing catcher Welington Castillo on the seven-day concussion list.
Castillo is batting .176 with three home runs and 10 RBI so far this season, but was hit in the mask by a foul tip during Friday night’s game against the Twins. He will miss at least a week due to the injury, the team said in a press release.
To replace Castillo on the active roster, the White Sox recalled catcher Seby Zavala from Triple-A Charlotte. Zavala has six home runs and 18 RBI with the Charlotte Knights this season, and has yet to appear in a big league game in his career.
The White Sox also made a third roster move, activating pitcher Manny Bañuelos from the 10-day injured list. Bañuelos started Saturday’s game against the Twins, his first appearance since being placed on the I.L. with left shoulder soreness.
A roster spot had been created for Bañuelos when pitcher Thyago Vieira was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday night’s game. The reliever has gone 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three relief appearances with the White Sox.
