Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the tightening of security in and around airports around the world, there have not been many airport shootings. But they do happen from time to time. Some are committed by self-styled terrorists, and some are the result of other criminal behavior.
The incidents include:
July 4, 2002: Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, 41, an Egyptian who came to the United States a decade earlier, approached the El Al ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport, pulled two guns and opened fire on dozens of people, killing two and wounding four others. An unarmed El Al security guard knocked the gunman to the floor. A second security officer, who was armed, ultimately shot and killed the gunman.
Dec. 7, 2005: Federal air marshals shot and killed a passenger at Miami International Airport after he claimed to have a bomb and refused orders to stop running down a jetway. The victim, Rigoberto Alpizar, 44, of Costa Rica, was on a flight from Medellin, Colombia to Orlando, Fla. The shooting occurred during a stopover in Miami.
April 27, 2006: Kenneth Callaway, 38, got into an argument with workers at a Cleveland Hopkins International Airport ticket counter, grabbed a police officer's gun and shot him. Another officer shot Callaway dead. The injured officer survived.
March 2, 2011: Arid Uka, an Islamic extremist from Kosovo, shot and killed two American airmen as they boarded a shuttle bus outside a Frankfurt, Germany airport terminal. The victims were Senior Airman Nicholas J. Alden, 25, and Airman 1st Class Zachary R. Cuddeback, 21. Two other servicemen were wounded.
Oct. 14, 2011: Masked gunmen dressed as police opened fire on the occupants of cars in the parking area of La Mesa International Airport in Honduras, killing six men and wounding three others.

May 2, 2013: Carnell Marcus Moore, 29, walked into Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston with a rifle and a handgun, fired at least two shots and then killed himself. He left behind a suicide note.
May 17, 2013: Police opened fire on Rodney Addison, 20, at Jacksonville International Airport after he allegedly rammed two patrol cars in the airport rental car parking garage. One officer shot at Addison's car with a rifle, hitting it three times. Addison was not struck.
Nov. 1, 2013: Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, allegedly opened fire at a Los Angeles International Airport security checkpoint, killing one Transportation Security Administration officer and wounding several others. Ciancia, who was carrying anti-government material, was shot by security officers and taken into custody.
