Thieves Steal Grandmother's Ashes From Family Van

The family was set to hold a memorial service for the grandmother and is begging for the thieves to return the urn containing her remains

After a Southern California grandmother's cremated remains were stolen from a relative’s van, her family is pleading the thieves return the beloved matriarch's ashes.

The Glendale family fears the remains of their doting grandmother, famous for making the "best" chocolate cherry cake, will never be returned.

UPDATE: Grandmother's Stolen Ashes Returned to Family

"We don't care about anything else that’s missing," stepdaughter Lily Larocca said. "We can't replace her."

Police believe a team of thieves were checking for unlocked car doors late at night when they broke into the family van and grabbed jewelry, a purse, and the blue leather-covered urn containing the remains of Lois Larocca.

"They must've thought (the urn) had jewelry or booze or something, but it was grandma," said one relative. "We want her back."

A memorial planned for the grandmother has been put on hold. The family just hopes the thieves do the right thing.

"Maybe they'll have a heart and bring her back," a granddaughter said.
