Weeks before the home opener, a Wrigleyville street vendor filed suit Wednesday against a Cubs subsidiary for canceling its lease to sell memorabilia across the street from Wrigley Field.
The Pesha family has sold memorabilia from a stand in the McDonald’s parking lot near Clark and Addison since 1970, The Chicago Tribune reports.
A company owned by the Ricketts family canceled the Peshas' lease after it bought the McDonald’s land last year, according to the suit.
It's not clear what the Ricketts plan to do with the land, but they long have discussed redeveloping the area around the Friendly Confines.
The Peshas claim they signed a five-year lease in 2010, with an option to the space until 2020. They say the Ricketts LLC plans to use the space to sell similar merchandise.
The acre at Clark and Addison streets was purchased in November from Oak Brook-based McDonald’s Corp.
McDonald’s leased back the land and will continue operating. A company spokeswoman said in December a store must be included in future development plans per the deal.
