No One Inside Stolen Vehicle Found in Fox River: Officials

Vehicle was stolen Monday night from an Elgin resident, officials said.

No one was found inside a vehicle partially submerged in the Fox River, officials said.

The car was found submerged up to its rooftop in water off Duncan Avenue, near the eastern banks of the Fox River, south of Interstate 90.

It was intially unclear if anyone was in the vehicle, and members of the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District's Dive Rescue Team were called to investigate.

Divers found no one inside, and officials determined the vehicle had been stolen Monday night from an Elgin resident.

It's believed the vehicle went into the water at about 6:15 a.m.

An abandoned car was found submerged at almost the same spot in the river several years ago.
