8 Former Prosecutors On Short List To Replace Fitzgerald

The list of candidates to replace former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald reportedly has been narrowed down to eight.

The group of former federal prosecutors will be interviewed by a selection committee, according to the Chicago Tribune. The list includes the executive inspector general for Gov. Pat Quinn, the lead prosecutor on the investigation of former Gov. George Ryan and a U.S. District Court judge in Chicago, the Tribune reports.

The six men and two women finalists are Jonathan Bunge, Patrick Collins, Zach Fardon, Virginia Kendall, John Lausch, Lori Lightfoot, Ricardo Meza and Gil Soffer.

Senators Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk will receive the final recommendation.

Patrick Fitzgerald left his post in June after nearly 11 years. His politically connected convictions include former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Ryan, Ed Vrdolyak, Robert Sorich and Al Sanchez.

On the eve of his final day, Fitzgerald announced corruption charges against former Chicago politicians Joseph Mario Moreno and Ambrosio Medrano.

Assistant Federal Prosecutor Gary Shapiro was named Fitzgerald's interim replacement.
