Four buildings on the east side of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus were evacuated Tuesday morning after a gas line was punctured.
All students and staff were allowed back into the buildings, near West Taylor and South Morgan streets, by 11:30 a.m.
A Level 2 HazMat response was called when a construction company hit a small gas line at 900 W. Taylor St., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.
Four buildings, including a science and engineering laboratory, and offices, an engineering research facility; and Burnham Hall, an academic building, were evacuated after the two-inch gas line was punctured, said Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez, a UIC spokesperson.
No injuries were reported.
