State Trooper Hurt After Van Crashes Into His Squad Car

An Illinois State Trooper suffered minor injuries after his squad car was hit by a van on Friday morning, according to authorities.

The trooper was sitting in a marked squad car in the U-turn lane at milepost 19.5 on Interstate 94 when a white Ford Econoline van drifted onto the left shoulder and struck the police vehicle.

Lake Forest firefighters transported both victims to an area hospital. Trooper Karabin was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the van, identified as 50-year-old Clyde Maki Jr. of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, was taken to the hospital with more serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The trooper was treated for his injuries and released, according to a press release.

Police say that felony charges have been approved against Maki, including Aggravated DUI, aggravated driving on a suspended license, and several other traffic violations.
