The 2024 Chicago Auto Show kicks off this weekend, running through Presidents' Day and showcasing the newest innovations in the automotive industry.
While visitors won't exactly be leaving the McCormick Place in a futuristic ride, they can take care of some necessary business without any of the usual hassle.
Continuing a trend from last year, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced that Secretary of State services will once again be offered at the Chicago Auto Show via the office's booth.
Auto show attendees can visit the booth without an appointment and can renew their driver's license or state ID card, though only vision screening is offered for those renewing their driver's license.
Plenty of other additional services will be offered at the booth, including vehicle transfers, vehicle sticker sales, license plates, and organ donor registration.
Attendees can also get specialty license plates, parking placards for those with disabilities, vehicle title and registration as well as "pick-a-plate."
Additionally, drivers can once again obtain a "REAL ID" at the booth, which will be required to board domestic flights by May 2025.
Local
Under REAL ID requirements, a driver's license no longer serves as sufficient identification for boarding domestic flights or entering secure federal buildings, such as a military facility or prison.

According to the Secretary of State's office, here's exactly what you need:
- Either a U.S. birth certificate or a U.S. passport. An employment authorization document, permanent resident card or foreign passport with an approved I-94 form is also acceptable. If you've changed your name, you'll need to provide name change documents.
- Proof of a full Social Security number (SSN). Some examples are: an SSN card, a W-2 or a pay stub with your full SSN.
- Two current residency documents that list your full name. Some examples are: a utility bill, rental agreement, deed/title or a bank statement. Account numbers must be visible.
- Proof of your signature. Some examples are: a signed credit or debit card, canceled check or current state ID.
