Elgin police have arrested a 26-year-old recent parolee whom they believe is responsible for Wednesday's attack on two mentally handicapped women in their home.
Police found Byron Broger at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in an Elgin apartment mere blocks away from where the assault occurred.
Broger faces two counts each of home invasion and aggravated battery, carrying a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. Bond has been set at $300,000.
"I'm proud of the manner in which the Elgin Police Department responded and investigated this crime, and by the very next day, took a dangerous individual off the street," Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said in a news release.
Broger was serving a 33-month sentence for attempted burglary when he was released from prison on parole less than a month ago.
Broger has been arrested more than 16 times, according to police, on charges that include assault and burglary.
