Monday marks Casimir Pulaski Day, a holiday observed in the City of Chicago and Cook County in honor of the Revolutionary War cavalry officer.
As a result, all Chicago public schools and most suburban public schools are closed. So are Chicago public libraries.
Chicago and Cook County government offices are shut down, but federal and state offices will remain open. Cook County Courts also are off today, except bond court.
Mail will be delivered, though, and most banks are open. Metra, Pace and CTA are operating their normal schedules, as well.
Pulaski is a Polish-born cavalry officer killed in the Revolutionary War. Chicago has the largest Polish population in the world next to Warsaw Poland.
