Just weeks before Christmas, Pope Francis has asked Chicago's Cardinal Blase Cupich to visit Puerto Rico as they cope with rebuilding after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The Archdiocese says the visit is "a means of drawing close to the people and their pastors."
The pope has asked Cupich "to express his deep concern" and "their situation weighs heavily on him."
Cupich was in Rome last week as a member of the Vatican Congregation of Bishops. He is now in Moscow until midweek.
Cupich will travel to Puerto Rico Dec. 3 to 6, in cooperation with the Puerto Rican Episcopal Conference and the Apostolic Delegate in Puerto Rico.
