More than 200 of the city’s snow plows and salt spreaders were deployed Sunday afternoon as up to three inches of snowfall fell throughout the Chciago area on Sunday evening.
The fleet was sent out to main streets and Lake Shore Drive, the Department of Streets and Sanitation said in a statement. Arterial routes and Lake Shore Drive were the first to be salted and plowed, the department said. Work continued to neighborhood streets once the snow stopped.
Heavy snowfall was reported at O'Hare by late Sunday afternoon and visibility was greatly reduced.
Elburn, Elgin and DeKalb all checked in with three inches of new snow. Elk Grove Village recorded 2.4 inches.
The snow system was out of the Chicago area well in advance of the Monday morning commute.
