A Northwest Indiana woman rescued from a heroin overdose was upset that her clothing was cut up during lifesaving treatment.
Chesterton police said Brooke Mieczenkowski, 18, a known heroin user, was unconscious and not breathing when another 18-year-old woman called 911 after driving her to her home around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The friend told police Mieczenkowski had asked her to pick her up from the gas station at 12th and Broadway, but she did not give other details.
Fire department medics hooked Mieczenkowski up to an automated external defibrillator and did chest compressions. EMS arrived a few minutes later and gave her a shot of a drug neutralizer, which woke her up, police said.
The woman was checked by a doctor at Porter hospital in Valparaiso before being released to police. At that time, she reportedly got upset about her hooded sweatshirt, saying "They should have used the zipper," in a rude manner, according to the police report.
Mieczenkowski was jailed for felony possession of heroin, a bag of which was found on the ground next to her. She told police a friend offered the drug free of charge, and she decided to take it because she ran out of medication.
