Teen Shot, Killed During Armed Confrontation With Chicago Police

The juvenile was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries

A juvenile who was shot by police during an “armed confrontation” with officers Saturday evening in Lawndale has died.

The announcement came from the Civilian Office of Police Accountability on Sunday morning. In a press release, COPA revealed that the teen, who was not identified, attempted to flee when officers performed a traffic stop on the city's West Side.

"During the foot pursuit, the officer encountered the individual and discharged their weapon," COPA said in a statement.

The officers recovered weapons from the scene, and another man is in custody in connection with the incident.

COPA says that they will initiate a full investigation and review all available video and other evidence in the coming days.

According to Chicago Police, an "armed confrontation" ensued as he tried to run from a car that crashed in the 2100 block of South Keeler Avenue.

After the teen was shot, he was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
