A Carol Stream man who beat a 15-pound Jack Russell terrier so badly the dog lost an eye was ordered to serve 10 days in jail and pay $1,400 to cover the dog's veterinary bills.
"This is a serious offense," DuPage County Judge Jane Mitton said in sentencing Randall Madison.
She also placed him on probation for two years and ordered him to undergo a psychological evaluation and do 150 hours of community-service work.
