Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run That Killed 22-Year-Old Woman

The woman was fatally struck by the car at 1:45 p.m. Thursday on South Halsted

A 69-year-old man was charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a woman Thursday afternoon in Englewood, Chicago Police announced early Saturday.

Mathew Price, of the 5400 block of South Peoria, was charged with a felony count of failure to report an accident involving a death and a misdemeanor count of failure to give information or give aid for an injury, according to police. He was also cited for not exercising due care for a pedestrian in the roadway.

Jazzalyn Fontanez, 22, was struck by the vehicle about 1:45 p.m. in the 5900 block of South Halsted, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Fontanez, of the 1700 block of North Campbell, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Price allegedly drove to the 5300 block of South Union before he was arrested, police said.

Price is scheduled to appear in bond court on Saturday.
