Lynwood Man Calls Cops, Says He's Driving Drunk

Dante Owens, 42, of Lynwood, called State Police Friday morning and said he was out of gas and had no idea where he was located, officials say

A south suburban motorist was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly called Illinois State Police to report that he was drunk, lost and out of gas near Momence.

Dante Owens, 42, of Lynwood, called State Police Friday morning and said he was out of gas and had no idea where he was located, according to an Illinois State Police release.

When the dispatcher asked for more information, Owens allegedly said he was drunk and did not know where he was coming from or where he was headed, the release said.

A cell phone signal helped trace Owens’ location to Illinois Route 17 and 7000 west road in Kankakee County near Momence, State Police said. A responding trooper said Owens was sitting in the driver’s seat and the keys were still in the ignition.

Owens allegedly admitted he was driving by himself and was lost. He failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol, State Police said.

Ownes was taken to the Kankakee County Jail.
