Man Injured in Shooting at North Riverside Park Mall

A man was injured in a shooting Friday afternoon at North Riverside Park Mall, prompting the closure of the west suburban shopping center, according to the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark newspaper.

According to police, one person was shot at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the upper-level common area near the former Sears store. North Riverside Police Chief Carlos Garcia classified the incident as domestic and said it involved an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend.

The victim suffered two non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his lower body and was transported to the hospital. A short time later, police stopped a vehicle at Harlem Avenue and 16th Street in Berwyn, and detained two men, one of whom police suspect in the shooting.

The mall was closed for the remainder of the day following the shooting.

According to the Landmark newspaper, this incident marked the third shooting at the mall in the past four months.
