‘Beach Hazard' Statement Issued for Cook County

While the weather will be vastly improved from this week’s steamy temperatures and rainy conditions, swimmers at area beaches will have to be on alert Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazard Statement for Cook County in Illinois and LaPorte and Lake counties in northwest Indiana. The statement takes effect at 3 a.m. and will last through Friday evening.

Dangerous swimming conditions are expected in Lake Michigan, with wave heights of three to six feet in the forecast. Strong rip currents and structural currents are also expected.
