NBC News correspondent Kevin Tibbles on Wednesday morning got an exclusive preview of The Tilt, the new attraction near the top of Chicago's John Hancock Center. It opens to the public on Saturday.
The 94th floor perch features a glass enclosed box that, like the Ledge at the Willis Tower, protrudes from the side of the building and provides spectacular views of the city below.
Three hydraulic lifts and three laminated pieces of Plexiglass, each 3/4 of an inch thick, keep the structure and its occupants -- eight at a time -- safely inside the building.
"We believe this is the first in the world," 360 general manager Nichole Williamson said in a March report on the attraction. "The movement in and out of the building is very controlled. We want it to be memorable and thrilling, but we don't want to terrify anybody."
TILT was first unveiled to the more than 500 visitors at the U.S. Travel Association's IPW convention on April 5-9.
It will cost $5 to experience TILT, plus the cost of general admission to the observatory.
