International Women's Day Events in Chicago

Thursday marks International Women's Day around the world, with several organizations hosting celebrations, discussions, rallies and more right here in Chicago. Here are just a few of the events planned across the city - 

8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: 1871 and Charles Schwab present a series of events for International Women’s Day, including panel discussions and workshops and concluding with a keynote speech by Tina Tchen, chief of staff to former First Lady Michelle Obama, at 1871, 222 W. Merchandise Mart Plaza, Suite 1212; keynote speech starts at 6 p.m.

10a.m. to 11 a.m.: Women of WeWork River North Brunch + Flower Grams at WeWork River North, 111 W Illinois St, 5th Floor

10a.m. to 11 a.m.: Women of WeWork Fulton Market Brunch featuring Local, Woman-Owned Restaurants at WeWork Fulton Market, 220 N Green St

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The Global Strategists Association holds its 5th annual International Women’s Day Luncheon at the DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 E. 56th Place.

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Mujeres Latinas en Accion holds its 2018 Voces Unidas Luncheon and fundraiser to celebrate the group’s 45th anniversary and International Women’s Day at Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Upper Wacker Drive.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: The Chicago Bar Association holds a “Celebrating the Progress of Women Lawyers Luncheon” featuring a keynote speech by Tina M. Tchen, former Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls under the Obama administration, at The Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Court.

4 p.m.: Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and 10th Ward Ald. Sue Sadlowski Garza join hundreds of women, activists, SEIU Local 1 members and allies for an International Women’s Day rally and march starting at the Thompson Center, 100 E. Randolph St.

4 p.m.: Hotel EMC2 celebrates International Women’s Day by hosting a trivia event about mathematician Emmy Noether at 228 E. Ontario St.

6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: RLadies Chicago welcomes Chief Scientist at RStudio, Hadley Wickham at WeWork Grant Park, 332 N Michigan Ave

6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: VOXX and Off-Kilter Magazine present: Womyn Like Us, an International Women’s Day event. A discussion on creativity, inclusivity and the shared experience of womyn-hood in the modern age at WeWork National Building, 125 S Clark St, 17th Floor
